The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck is May 17-19 with a focus on wheel ends.
The CVSA International Roadcheck is a commercial vehicle inspection and enforcement initiative that takes place over a 72-hour period. Beginning May 17 - 19, commercial motor vehicle inspectors in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will conduct North American Standard Inspections of commercial motor vehicles and drivers at weigh and inspection stations, on roving patrols, and at temporary inspection sites. TLG Peterbilt is here to make sure your trucks and fleets are prepared. Routine inspection and maintenance service helps to ensure your drivers stay safe and avoid costly downtime.
Each year, CVSA focuses on a specific aspect of roadside inspection. The focus for 2022 will be on wheel ends. Wheel end components support the heavy loads carried by commercial motor vehicles, maintain stability and control, and are critical for braking. When inspectors find critical out-of-service violations, they are required to restrict the driver or vehicle from travel until those violations or conditions are addressed. If no violations are found, drivers will receive a CVSA decal that indicates they’ve passed an inspection.
5 Wheel Ends Inspection Tips:
- Check for cracks or unseated locking rings, studs or clamps
- Check for bent, cracked or broken rims
- Check tires, valve stems, and inner wheel seals for leaks
- Check for regrooved tires on steering axles
- Check the hub for lubricant leaks, missing caps or plugs
