Kory Larson, The Larson Group – Peterbilt's chief operating officer, shares the following about National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, the anniversary of 9/11, and Hurricane Florence.

Friends,

In celebration of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, it is time once again we express our gratitude to the millions of brilliant truck drivers who keep America moving forward.

I had the honor of spending all of yesterday at an appreciation luncheon, shaking the hands of men and women who are not only professional drivers but are also dedicated to safety in transportation. I cannot emphasize enough that this role is absolutely essential in ensuring our economy flourishes and enables access to necessary goods for all industries.

As we honor our truck drivers throughout this week, we have also been reminded of a historic and catastrophic event that shook the nation seventeen years ago. We honor those who sacrificed and unintentionally lost their lives, and reflect on where we were the morning of September 11, 2001. How we felt. How we united.

Another year behind us since that unforgettable tragedy, a natural and anticipated catastrophe is approaching.

It is hard to believe that merely one year ago we were watching the unbelievable and costly damage from hurricanes Harvey and Irma unfold. As I am certain you are aware, The National Weather Service has indicated the Carolinas are now in the path of a hurricane expected to cause an incredible amount of damage, too. Approaching quickly, Hurricane Florence has reached category 4 with winds roaring up to 130 mph, and has caused more than one million Americans to already evacuate coastal areas.

Now, more than ever, we are reminded that truck drivers play a vital role in transporting goods and helping to secure them with the increase in trucking-related issues and strong natural disasters. It is with great pride we say “thank you” to our truckers for all they contribute to the world and our local communities.

With highways blocked off by law enforcement, our Peterbilt of Charleston store has closed its doors to prepare for themselves and be with their families. Our remaining locations in North and South Carolina are currently business as usual, but we are monitoring the situation as our employees’ safety is our top priority. We also are committed to ensuring our customers' equipment is functioning properly during challenging times.

The Larson Group spanned to this area only a few years ago, but the relationships we’ve built across this area of the nation and in these communities are meaningful and powerful. Whether you are a driver, customer or employee, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and well through this storm. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Kory Larson
